Peanut Butter is Safe for Dog Treats

Many people wonder if you can make dog treats that contain peanut butter. I imagine that this question is generally asked because various people have heard that nuts are not acceptable for dogs. It has been written that several types of nuts like Macadamia and walnuts are quite harmful.

Over time, some nuts often become toxic and the degree of phosphorus might accumulate, causing both liver and bladder issues. In many cases these issues can even induce death. It is also significant to consider that some types of chocolate may contain nuts which may cause the same issues.

There is great information for those of us that like to use peanut butter as an aid in giving medication, rewarding our dogs with peanut butter dog snacks or just sharing a smidgen on the tip of our finger. Peanuts are not really nuts! In fact, peanuts are really a species in the legume family (Fabaceae) to be specific. In other words, peanuts are actually a type of bean!

As with any new food item, it should initially be given in a small potion. Since dogs, just like people, can have food allergies, consideration should be taken. If an allergic reaction is suspected, discontinue the feeding and monitor your dog closely. Just like many items, there can be an upside and a downside. The protein content of peanut butter is high but so are the calories. You can always select an organic product if you are worried about added preservatives.

In closing, peanut butter is not known to be dangerous for dogs. Like any food or dog treats we provide our dogs, we need to look at the label and consider the additional ingredients used in the preparation process. This is exciting news for my dogs since they enjoy a KONG(R) filled with peanut butter from the freezer.

I have a weakness…my dog’s sad, pleading eyes. When I’m snacking on a tasty treat, it’s very difficult to not give my dog, Sam, just a taste. Unfortunately, many of the seemingly harmless “people foods” that we enjoy can wreak havoc on your poor, unsuspecting dog’s health.

For years, dog experts have all agreed that feeding table scraps to your dog has the potential to poison. While there are a number of good dog treat recipes out there, you must be careful not to use ingredients that are considered to be harmful to your pet. One such ingredient is grapes.

Grapes are known to be very dangerous to the dog’s kidneys and can be fatal.

Even though the number of grapes that might be dangerous and poisonous is unknown, eating less than 5 grapes may be very harmful to a dog weighing at least 20 pounds.

What are some indicators that your dog has consumed poison in grapes?

Within 24 hours, vomiting, weakness and diarrhoea may be present. However, these symptoms can start in as little as a few hours. You may also notice that your dog is urinating a lot less. This can be a symptom of his kidneys shutting down.

What can be done now?

In case you feel that your dog has swallowed some poisonous food, pay a visit to your veterinarian without wasting any time. Probably, the dog will be carefully checked, and given large amounts of fluids till he gets better.

You can avoid all this quite simply by not feeding your dog with people food! Discover instead a variety of tasty healthy treat(suitable for dogs). Not only are you giving your pet a dog treat but also protecting him with this healthy tasty snack too.

There are many ways that you can use your knowledge of animals to impress your friends. There are lots of great dog tricks that you can teach your dog quickly and easily that will be sure to impress. When you are looking at the various types of dog tricks that you might decide to do, one of the most important things to think about is the way that your dog is going to be obedient to you. With the right combination of treats and praise, you can teach your dog to do just about anything. Therefore, it is first important to look at how to teach them a trick.

If you have a dog, you might already know that there are special treats available for sale that are perfect for doing dog tricks. Just make sure that they are low in calories, so your dog won’t get fat, and that you only use the treat when you want your dog to do tricks. Don’t give it to your dog at any other time, otherwise your dog will be confused and will not be able to associate correctly the treat with the fact that you want him or her to do a trick.

Sit and Stay

The first trick is one of the best, not only to impress your friends, but to make sure that your dog is always exhibiting good behavior. It is sit and stay. The first thing that you should do is hold a treat far above your dog’s nose, so that he has to look up to see it. As he looks up, one of his natural reactions would be to sit down. Tell him to sit, and move the treat further back from him. If he doesn’t sit right away, gently push him into a sitting position, while repeating the word sit. Once he’s sat, praise him, and give him the treat. Do this a few times until you are sure that he can do it on command. Then, move on to stay. This is a bit harder to do. What you want to do is place your hand flat in front of his face, almost in a “stop” type gesture. Tell him to stay, and start to back away. Even if he only stays for a few seconds, praise him and give him the treat. Keep doing this until you have gotten to the point where he will stay for as long as you want him to. The sit and stay is a great combination of tricks to use to impress your friends.

Bring It Back

At a warm day at the park, you can easily practice this one. It’s also a favorite for most people. All you need is something to throw like a sock, a ball, a Frisbee, or a stick. Once you throw the item, your dog should naturally try and retrieve it. Get him to bring it back to you by calling his name and then give him a treat when he gets back to you.
